Road is open and in a good condition to 5 km where there is a new carpark. Walk the last 1 km as the old road has been washed out.

Site of the cave creek disaster where 14 people died when a viewing platform collapsed in 1995. There is a memorial plaque on the way. There is no platform now, just stairs to go to the creek which is dry now, there is just a small pool of water at the point of resurgence.

we thought it was a nice spot to do a sneaky camp for one night.the river can flood and the valley is small/narrow.keep in mind that the whole place incl carpark can flood!we had to leave our cars, surounded by water. walked back down the road/stream, got swept away and glad we are still allive.
