Went there at about 7-8pm to have dinner and a glass of wine. Taking our time after a long day drive under the rain. Council came after an hour accusing us doing free camping because we were basically staying there for too long. We said we were heading to Hokitika that night and needed some time to relax. They didn't believe us and said that backpackers like us are just all the same doing freecamping all around New Zealand. Took our plate number and threatened to give us a fine. Absolutely rude. Sad that this kind of people would just enjoy their job being rude to travellers and being obsessed by getting money from them.
