Freedom camping permitted in CERTIFIED SELF-CONTAINED VEHICLES ONLY. The maximum stay for freedom campers at any one location is two consecutive nights. Park in a legal manner in formed parking areas without obstructing footpaths or access.
Self-contained vehicles must clearly display NZS5465:2001 certification.
Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace.
Keep New Zealand clean. Always use the toilet in your vehicle or a public toilet.

The place is beautiful. Hard to level and not much space for larger vans. If you have a 5m van you should have a good time there. We drove on.

We parked beside the beach (down the side road) as gravelled area is on a slope so uneven and regularly used by racehorse truck. Beautiful spot. Quiet end of the beach. Horses train daily. Lots of dogs. Easy walk to town via the track. If I went again, I think I'd park at the sports ground just to play it safe as council rules state 'graveled areas'
