Description
If you want to freedom camp in MacKenzie District you must be in a self-contained vehicle (with a toilet, wastewater tank and rubbish facilities on board) that clearly displays NZS5465:2001 certification.
If you dont have a self-contained campervan or motorhome with this certification you will need to find a campground.
You may stay for a maximum of one night.
Please note: Freedom camping without a self-contained campervan will result in a $200 instant fine per person.
Dispose of all waste and rubbish appropriately and light no fires.
Please be considerate of other users of the area and your impact on them and the environment around you.
Do not wash dishes or wash/dry clothes in public facilities not designed for that purpose, eg public toilet, river.

Beautiful spot with views over Lake Pukaki, lot of space to park (but not always a level place) at one of the 3 levels, and Clean droptoilets at the bottom level.

Yes they cut down all the trees but that's because the pine seeds are difficult to manage, because the pine seeds give rise to so many pine trees like weed. I'm appreciate the opportunity they give us beautiful free camping ground .

Amazing. Just amazing. To park up with a view like this is just something special. Only one block with 4 drop toilets, so a bit of a walk if you parked with the water view (and bring a torch), but cant really complain when you wake up at a place like this. Freecamp done right.
