Currently a lot of sheep grazing on the access road. First gate at Private Property boundary is closed with wire, proceed through but remember to close and secure gate again for our wooly friends. Drive slow, as they will jump out of the bush on your left heading in.

A scenic DOC campsite right on lake front at the top end of Lake Hawea. Currently a heap of portaloos as the toilet block is under reconstruction. Water (boil) from taps, cooking shelter (open sided), and hiking tracks up to a DOC hut. 6km gravel road in through Hunter Station; caution livestock, as this section isn't fenced. But otherwise an easy, well graded gravel access road that won't be problematic for any campervans/RVs. Loads of space in, under around trees for tent camping. Sandflys are not significant. It is currently very over occupied for Waitangi Weekend. Mobile reception: Ver good 3-4 bars Spark 4G reception. No 2Degrees reception at all, and other reviews mention no Vodafone.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Very busy at the moment over the kids holidays but well worth the stay. Lots of space and loads of portaloos. Beautiful views and can pretty much can anywhere. Went for a nice swim as well which wasn't too cold. Minimal sandflies and no signal for Vodafone
