Very good shelter with flush toilets and potable water from the taps inside and outside. A bit loud as it's wedged in between the rail and the road but a perfect base for some hikes. Next to the iSite with super friendly DOC people. Definitely have a look at the Kea Kiosk for some kea know-how.

DOC Standard (read basic) level campsite. Free with DOC Campsite Pass. Plenty of gravel area for cars/vans/mh and enough grassed area amongst the shrubs and trees around the cooking shelter building for tents. It is located between the train line and SH73 in central AP Village so it's awesome location wise. If pristine peace and quiet is your thing, Klondyke Corner Campsite (or backcountry camping) is likely a better match. A three minute walk to the AP store and Wobbly Kea, is the tradeoff for a few coal trains and cars on SH73. Full (4) bars of 2Degrees and Spark 4G reception. Potable drinking water (inside, and also a tap outside on wall near second WC behind Kitchen). 2x Clean, if not old flush toilets. Lights in the kitchen shelter.

Not the nicest , but a fine base for hiking the next day. I don't remember the trains being too loud, but it's basically just a car park next to the train station. New toilets at the station are nice
