Nice walk, although the first section of the walk is along the road, so is quite open and exposed. Lots of Ford's to cross in shoes - we picked our way across on the way there and ended up just getting our feet wet on the way back. The first creek crossing was particularly icy and would have been quite dangerous after rain when the creek is swollen. Feels very remote. A few helicopters flying around. Pretty when you get to the Forrest section and sections of lovely tramping along the river. We turned around part way and didn't get all the way to the hut.

10/01/2020 Track from the carpark to Shelter Rock Hut leads through beautiful landscape wich is changing all the time. You go mostly along the river, there are few moments when you have to cross it - sometimes easier to take your shoes off. There are very muddy parts - like moss or swamp, ocassionally quite deep. When you get to the forest the path is nice, there are only a few fallen trees. An elevation is mild, as you only gain around 400m on 19km. Even though I felt pretty tired at the hut it's worth the effort. P.S. Road to the carpark is closed 5 km before the carpark at the moment. Allow some extra time for the hike.
