Mangatini Falls can be accessed from the Seddonville carpark. The Seddonville carpark to Mangatini Falls is approximately a 4 hour round walking trip. 9.5 km one way. Scenery and history combine in this walk along an historic bush tramway, with spectacular vistas up and down the Ngakawau Gorge, alongside an unfolding view of the Mangatini Falls. Located near Westport, it's one of NZ's best short walks. A portion of the walkway 10 minutes walk in from the Ngakawau carpark is closed due to an active and highly dangerous slip. Do not cross the barriers. Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.

Really mesmerizing! Don't start at the point that is shown in the map though. There is another entrance approx. 30 minutes drive away from that one, at Chasm Creek Road (10 km gravel road included, but nothing too heavy). We walked less than 2 hours one way, it's not at all steep, just the beginning is quite boring and sunny, but it well get better! It's all worth it. We stayed almost two hours at the waterfall, swimming in the river, enjoying the atmosphere. We even saw two deers on our way, and a little bird flew on my shoe. A real nature walk with a stunning waterfall. Do it! :-)

Seen it after a rainfall. Was gorgeous

Absolutely a MUST see waterfall in NZ. There is a rock slide at the entrance of the track but if you go down the river and walk yourself around the slide you'll have one of the best walks in NZ. You follow an old gold mine wagon track which is very flat do very easy to walk and then after a swing bridge...BOOM the stunning me and go to check out this place. It's just magical....100/100 WAAAY better than the Thunder punch waterfall in Arthur's National ParK....
