Diamond Lake and Rocky Mountain offer a variety of short or half-day walks, rock climbing areas, pristine swimming and native primary forest offering spectacular lake and mountain views. Diamond Lake Circuit Track return 45 minutes / 2.5km (easy) Diamond Lake Lookout return 1 hour / 2 km (easy-moderate, lots of stairs) Lake Wanaka Lookout return 2 hours / 5 km (easy-moderate) Rocky Mountain Summit Track return 3 hours / 7 km (moderate-hard) Start: Diamond Lake Car Park off Mt Aspiring Road From Diamond Lake, the track climbs steeply on a well formed track to a viewing platform above the lake. From here there are two options: A lower level circuit that takes in the Lake Wnaka viewpoint, with great views of both the lake and its islands. Sections of the track can be steep and are often slippery, even in summer. Extreme care is required. Because of ice, this track is not recommended during winter. An upper level circuit that winds its way to the top of 775 m Rocky Mountain. The views from here include the Southern Alps/K Tiritiri o te Moana and Mount Aspiring/Tititea. No dogs.

The Diamond lake has really nothing special, but the Wanaka lake view is really worth it. Did it by the Rocky Mountains track in 2h return. Awesome!

Track opened! We hiked to Rocky mountain today, very mudy, especially western track. Beautiful though!
