Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Potts Hut was built prior to 1899 and extended between 1947 and 1957.
Getting there
Buicks Bridge car park: Potts Hut is 11 hours walk or a grade 3 mountain bike ride (29.7 km) from Buicks Bridge car park on Hakatere Heron Road. From Mount Somers, follow Ashburton Gorge Road for 23 km, then Hakatere Heron Road for another 4 km.
Potts River car park: The hut is 9 hours (21 km) from the Potts River car park on Hakatere Potts Road. From Mount Somers, follow Ashburton Gorge Road, which becomes Hakatere Potts Road. The carpark is about 40 km from Mount Somers.
