Description

This is a basic nine-bunk hut in the Mid & South Canterbury area. Bookings not required - first come, first served. The hut sits amongst piles of moraine from the Cameron Glacier and has stunning views of the Arrowsmith Range. Cameron Hut is 6 hours (15.6 km) up the Cameron valley on an unmarked route. To reach Cameron valley, drive past Mt Arrowsmith Station on Hakatere Heron Road for about 1.6 km. Just past a gravel pit follow an unmarked 4WD track for about 1.4 km to the start of the route up the true right of the valley. Cameron Hut is subject to a low level of avalanche risk. The risk is possible during heavy snowfall years, particularly when there is snow on the ground around the hut during major storms or 24 hours afterwards.
