Description

The stunning staircase Owharoa Falls are nestled in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. Ideal for a picnic stop while doing the Hauraki Rail Trail, or a photo op detour. This scenic spot is easily accessed from the main road, a few metres up Waitawheta Road, opposite the entrance to The Falls Retreat. It is a popular swimming spot with locals however care must be taken as it is prone to strong currents and hazardous features such as snags and slippery rocks and deep holes.

Nice long waterfall hidden away from the road and the path along the river. Calm surrounding. Not much visited I guess but worth a stop. It's not accessible by car, you need to walk e.g. from car park at Owharoa falls.
