Description
Whakamahi Beach is known for its tumultuous surf, black pebble beach, driftwood and other treasures which the tides leave behind. The lagoon behind the beach is a nature reserve and is a good spot for bird watching.
This beach is not safe for swimming.
Beware of getting bogged in soft sand.
Freedom camping is prohibited along Old Whakamahi Road.

They just changed the rules. No camping here any more. We saw the officer putting up the new sign (see pictures). He told us they are sick of people getting bogged (they had 12 in a week). Thanks to all who don't have a brain and are the reason why freedom camping gets forbidden more and more.

Nice spot. Do not enter on the sand with your campervan. We were bogged down. Hopefully some fishermen help us with their pickup !!! Very nice people. It's a fishing spot that's why there is cars night and day.

Great spot, felt uneasy in town. So stayed out here. Toilets are good and it's a beautiful spot with security cameras too. Beautiful spot!
