Dogs are permitted within the freedom camping area as long as they are tied up or on a leash at all times.
Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace.
Keep New Zealand clean. Always use the toilet in your vehicle or a public toilet.

Lot's of places all along this coast you can legally stay if self contained ,some spots a tad boggy and uneven being grassy but only a few minutes from the beach and quite a heavy surf so fishing might be a challenge. But as more and more of these beautiful places disappear let's say thank you to the locals for putting up with us.
