Description
Freedom camping permitted in CERTIFIED SELF-CONTAINED VEHICLES ONLY. Large flat grassy area by Lake Maraetai.
You may stay a maximum of three (3) nights.
Take all rubbish with you and leave no trace.
Keep New Zealand clean. Always use the toilet in your vehicle or a public toilet.
Ensure your sewage and grey water holding tanks are discharged at designated wastewater dump stations located at Riverside Park, Two Mile Bay Boat (both in Taup), and Mata Place in Kinloch.

This site is misleading if you try to use Google Maps to find it. It will take you to a culdesack with no camping site. If you go to the other site in Mangakino - the Recreation Reserve - and then continue driving past the reserve with the play area and swimming platform and drive on the gravel track between the lake and the golf course you will come to a large grassed area with water access. This is the area shown as Matekuri Island.

Great campsite, grassy area, front of the lake and a lot of spaces for everybody. No facilities, good signal reception.
