Cape Reinga Car Park

Point of Interest

4.4 from 9 users.

Enjoy outstanding panoramic views and pay respect to a site steeped in Maori tradition on a short stroll to an iconic lighthouse - it's suitable for children and buggies. Walk a short distance from the carpark to the lighthouse to experience outstanding views of our Northern Coast. To the west Cape Maria Van Dieman and Motuopao Island, to the east is Piwhane/Spirits Bay and Hikurua/de Serville Cliffs, the North Island's most northern point. Offshore, you can witness the immense power of two mighty oceans merging. The currents of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet in a foaming swell of broken water over the Columbia Bank. At times, the churning waves erupt in explosions of spray and spume. On a clear day you might be lucky enough to see the Three Kings Islands on the distant horizon. No camping or overnight parking.

Good flushing toilets but only with hand sanitiser. Tap and drinking water outside toilets in car park. Car park is small but no problems. Great walks down to lighthouse and on trails over mountains and beaches. Can see meeting of the sea and the ocean here which is pretty cool! And learn a bit about Maori culture.

Good facilities and absolutely stunning view.Careful a lots of mosquitos

No camping allowed, but lots of parking slots and clean toilets
