Description
This is a standard six-bunk hut located in Aorangi Forest Park in the Wairarapa region. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Facilities include open fire heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream.
Approximate times from nearest road end and huts:
Cape Palliser Road via Pararaki Stream: 3-4 hr (12 km). Permission required from Mr W. Jephson on + 64 6 307 8210
Washpool Hut via Aorangi Crossing: 2 hr 30 min - 3 hr 30 min (4.7 km)
Kawakawa Hut via Aorangi Crossing: 2-3 hr (4.5 km)
Tracks to the hut: Aorangi Crossing.
Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
