Description
This campsite is set back from Medlands Beach amongst mature trees. The estuary is safe for swimming and the beach is popular for surfing. Bookings required. Bookings should preferably be completed online. Phone and email bookings incur a service fee.
30 non-powered/tent sites. Facilities include non-flush toilets, cold showers, shelter for cooking, boat launch and water (not treated - boil before drinking). The site is wheelchair accessible with assistance.
Campsite serviced 1 December to end of February.
No open fires are permitted, bring your own cooker or gas BBQ.
Vehicle access to beach is not permitted, except at south end for boat launch.
We recommend boiling water before use.
Dogs are not permitted.
There is no free rubbish collection on Aotea/Great Barrier Island. There is a rubbish truck, which only accepts orange rubbish bags that are available from camp hosts at DOC campgrounds. These rubbish bags are $4 each. You can also take your own rubbish to the Claris landfill site. DOC only provides recycling bins during the summer peak season for: bottles, cans, and plastics.
Access: Narrow gravel roads to campsite, off main sealed road.
