A long way to get there. The last 200 Meters are no good for a rental car or camper, narrow stoney scratchy bushy road, the riverbank area is full of trash, and at night some swearing noisy hillbillys came to scare us off. We were clearly not welcome there, even if we are self contained and all. We left in the dark. Do not go there as a couple or with kids. A larger group might be ok, there is heaps of space.

When coming from palmerston north, you need to drive past some ruins on the left hand side, then after driving over a bridge take a sharp left turn onto a small forrest road. After driving on that path for a few minutes you will come to a field where you find different options to park on the riverbank. It does not seem to be anything official and is probably used by locals for swimming and fishing. No facilities, you need to be selfcontained.
