Description
This is a basic six-bunk hut located in Ruahine Forest Park in the Hawke's Bay region ideally situated for a day trip or as part of a multi-day tramp. There are no fees. Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream.
Dianes Hut was built by the Tressider family in memory of their daughter Diane Tressider, who frequently tramped in the area. The hut is located 20m off Koau Stream at an altitude of 650m. Dianes Hut is ideally situated for a day trip, or as part of a circuit exploring the northern park.
Diane's Hut is accessed from No Man's Road, via a private road through Big Hill Station. An access permit, obtained by ballot system, is required.
From the park boundary, travel on No Man's Road for approximately 10km (5km past the Ruahine Hut turnoff). The road continues south-west to reach Lessong's Monument. 800m past the monument, the track to Diane's Hut heads north from the road.
The track from No Man's Road to Diane's Hut takes 1 hr.
