Description
This is a standard 12-bunk hut located in Ruahine Forest Park in the Hawkes Bay region. Fees apply. Bookings not required - first come, first served.
Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water from a stream.
Daphne Hut is on a river terrace, 50 m from Tukituki River.
Getting there
Mill Road: 8 km via Tukituki River (not recommended when river levels are high)
Approx. 100 km for Napier or Palmerston North, turn off SH50 onto Makaretu Road, then into Mill Road the first road on the left. Mill Road becomes gravel after approx. 7 km.
Kashmir Road: 23 hr via Daphne Hut Track
Approx. 100 km from Napier or Palmerston North, turn off SH50 onto Makaretu Road, then into Mill Road the first road on the left. Mill Road becomes gravel after 7 km continue on for a further 4 km, then turn left into Kashmir Road. 2 km past the park boundary a side road on the right drops down for 200 m to Moorcock Stream where the track begins.
Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night's stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. Or buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that gives unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 6 or 12-month period.
