Description
This is a standard 26-bunk hut in the Tararua Forest Park in the Wairarapa region. Fees apply and bookings are required. Book online or contact the Kapiti Wellington Visitor Centre. Atiwhakatu Hut is a great destination for families and first time trampers.
Facilities include heating, mattresses, non-flush toilets and water (not treated - boil before use).
Atiwhakatu Hut is within easy reach of Holdsworth roadend, approximately 15 minutes drive from Masterton. Turn off State Highway 2 onto Norfolk Road, 2 km south of Masterton. This is signposted and there is a timber processing plant on the corner. Follow Norfolk Road for about 15 km to Holdsworth road end.
From the car park, follow the Atiwhakatu Track along Atiwhakatu Stream.

Mitre Flats Hut: 4 hr
Jumbo Hut: 1 hr 30 min
Dogs are not allowed in backcountry huts.
